Consideration of a $5,500 In-kind Donation from Project Glimmer to the SLCo Health Department Home Visiting Programs
Requested Agenda Item Description: Project Glimmer has provided a $5,500 in-kind donation for 300 Salt Lake County Health Department clients of the Nurse Family Partnership, Parents as Teachers, and Medicaid Early Childhood Targeted Case Management programs. The gifts come prepacked and typically contain a piece of jewelry and/or 2 to 3 name brand cosmetics. Each gift has an approximate value of $18.50.
Project Glimmer is a non-profit organization with the mission of building self confidence in women and girls. Project Glimmer has a network of over 1000 community partners who donate cosmetics and jewelry to be provided to women and girls living in environments of poverty, uncertainty, or fear who are often forgotten during celebrations or holidays. These items are intended to be graduation and Mother’s Day gifts for clients - allowing the Health Department to recognize their accomplishments as mothers and in achieving educational and program goals.
The gifts are obtained by filling out an application on the organization’s website with a description of the clients who will be receiving the items. The Health Department requested 300 gifts to be given to our evidence-based home visitation clients where the average household income for women is approximately $20,000 per year with an average household size of three.
