Budget Adjustment: Indigent Legal Services requests $250,000 one-time to fund a contract with a private defense attorney to replace the Salt Lake Legal Defender Association (LDA) for an aggravated murder case due to a conflict of interest

Requested Agenda Item Description: The Salt Lake Legal Defenders Association (LDA), the county's primary adult criminal defense services provider, has a material conflict of interest in the aggravated murder case State v. Sandoval because they represent a co-defendant. The court has therefor ordered that the county provide alternate representation. This is a one-time request to fund the hiring of a private attorney to represent Mr. Sandoval through trial or other resolution of the case.
