Title

Consideration of an Additional Waiver Request of Municipal Solid Waste Fees for up to 1500 tons in 2023 to Support Health Department Sanitation Efforts

Body

Requested Agenda Item Description: In December 2022, the Council approved a waiver of Municipal Solid Waste Fees, for up to 1000 tons in 2023. After recent review, it is anticipated that the 2023 need will be greater than 1000 tons, and as such a waiver for up to an additional 500 tons (totaling no more than 1500 tons) is requested.

As a reminder, Salt Lake County (specifically through the authority of the Salt Lake County Health Department) works in a collaborative effort with municipalities and other partners to address the growing environmental and public health challenges of encampments in the County. Solid waste generated at these locations are an environmental health challenge of which multiple stakeholders share a piece of the solution.
