Requested Agenda Item Description: This request is to recognize a grant award of $4,875 from the Utah Department of Arts and Museums. Grant monies will be used for the translation, printing, and installation of new plain language and bilingual labels for artworks at the Salt Lake County Government Center’s North Building.
Providing labels and signage in plain language will make it easier for the public to understand the art piece and the artist’s vision, even if they don’t have a background in art history or understand ‘art speak’ and industry jargon. Adding Spanish translation to art labels will help reach and engage with Spanish speaking residents in their native
language, and on a much larger scale than in the past.
The goal of this phase of our bilingual translation project is to make the Collection more inclusive and accessible for anyone visiting the Government Center. This will create a solid foundation for continuing the same translation in the South Building and other facilities.
