Budget Adjustment: Arts and Culture requests $19,960 to replace a chiller pump at Mid-Valley Performing Arts Center. Arts & Culture staff is working with the manufacturer of the existing pump to see about getting the costs covered by defect warranty. If the costs are not covered under a defect warranty, the project will be covered by utilizing underspent budget from another project.

Requested Agenda Item Description: This request is to replace a chiller pump at Mid-Valley Performing Arts Center. This is an exigent request as the backup pump, which was designed to handle support for shorts periods, is struggling to keep up with demand. Also, in the event the backup pump fails, the building would be without its primary source of cooling during the hot summer months. The chiller pump failed 4 years into a 15-year life cycle. The failure is likely due to a manufacturing defect and was not expected. Our Arts & Culture building operations staff are working with the manufacturer to see about getting the costs covered by defect warranty. If the costs are not covered under a defect warranty, the project is proposed to be covered by underspend from project CFA_0067UMOCA Utah Museum of Contemporary Arts, as the initial design phase came in under budget. The cost of the pump is $16,100. The estimated cost for Facilities Management oversight plus contingency are $3,860, for a total of $19,960. This exigent request allows Arts and Culture to purchase the pump while pursuing defect warranty reimbursement.
