Rio Tinto Solar Farm Permit Fee Adjustment Pursuant to Salt Lake County Ordinance 3.42.073
Body
Description: Rio Tinto has submitted a building permit application for a 5,000-kilowatt solar farm project to generate power to be used by Rio Tinto. When developed, the Salt Lake County fee schedule contemplated primarily residential and commercial buildings, not a solar farm. The MSD recommends a building permit fee adjustment for the Rio Tinto Solar Farm from $150,170.00 to $65,889.23. The proposed adjustment for this specific project is more applicable to the proposed scope and work. Salt Lake County Ordinance Section 3.42.073 provides that the mayor's office may recommend that the Council waive or adjust fees upon good cause shown to contribute to the safety, health, prosperity, moral well-being, peace, order, comfort, or convenience of county residents. Consistent with this ordinance and to facilitate a more reasonable fee that encourages the pursuit of this environmentally beneficial project, the mayor's administration is forwarding the MSD recommendation to the Council to adjust the fee corresponding to Calculation B for the Rio Tinto Solar Farm.
