Title

Salt Lake County Donation of $3,500 to Bicycle Collective to Support the Bikes for Goodwill Program

Body

Requested Agenda Item Description: The Salt Lake County Bicycle Advisory Committee (SLCBAC) receives an annual budget allocation from the Salt Lake County Council to provide funding for programs and projects that encourage bicycling as a form of transportation. The Bicycle Collective is a nonprofit bike shop that refurbishes donated bicycles and puts them into the hands of those in need - veterans, refugees, or recently released individuals from prison who are in transition. The bike shop builds community by providing training and jobs to youth and others to become certified bike mechanics. SLCBAC recommends the donation of $3,500 to the Bicycle Collective to support the Bikes for Goodwill program which identifies individuals most in need of a bicycle; often those who use a bicycle as their primary source of transportation. This donation will fund component parts to rebuild bicycles and service vouchers to help cover the costs of repairs for those who cannot afford them (so they have a working bicycle). Please see attached letter from the Bicycle Collective’s Executive Director more information.
