Requested Agenda Item Description: Salt Lake County Regional Transportation, Salt Lake County Bicycle Advisory Committee, and Bike Utah are collaborating on promoting riding a bicycle safely that also enhances health and disease prevention efforts. Bike Utah, a 501(c)3 nonprofit that focuses on making Salt Lake County a better place to ride a bike, has asked for assistance from County Regional Transportation and the Salt Lake County Bicycle Advisory Board (SLCBAC) to provide up to 500 sets of bike lights (white and red), 5 youth bikes, and 2 helmets. The bike lights will be provided to individuals to install on the front and back of their bike to make them more visible during the dawn and dusk hours of the day and at night. Helmets and bikes are being provided as an incentive to elementary age children who demonstrate an interest in riding a bike to school, parks, the library or shops and other desired locations, but do not currently have a bicycle. The bikes will be given away through a need-based criteria.
