Report of Identified Entities to Receive Budgeted $300,000 to be Used for Connecting Individuals Experiencing Homelessness in Salt Lake County with services
body

Description: While approval is not necessary as these funds have already been approved in the budget it is our intent to give the Council a heads up, as was done last year, on the specifics of this funding. $300,000 is currently budgeted for the purpose of connecting individuals experiencing homelessness in Salt Lake County. After working with the SLVCEH, SLC, State, and nonprofit partners to both determine the priorities of the homeless service system, as well as identifying the gaps in funding for these priorities, it was determined that the greatest need for funding in Salt Lake County is as outlined: $200,000 for Utah Community Action (UCA) to conduct critical diversion and intake services that help both divert individuals from our homeless services system as well as connect them with the appropriate resources. As part of those services, UCA staff a coordinated phone line that community members call if they are seeking shelter. When individuals call UCA, staff are able to direct individuals to the appropriate resources, including shelter, a resource center, or other resources as appropriate. $100,000 for Shelter The Homeless to administer a comprehensive transportation program that not only ensures that transportation is not a barrier to accessing the new homeless resource centers, but also helps to ensure that those who are being discharged from jail, or access services at the Weigand Day Center, have access to services. The program will be implemented in partnership with Advantage Services and is informed by a pilot program that ran from September 2019 through April 15, 2020.
