body

Description:  Salt Lake County Ordinance 2.26 concerns the County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) a local committee required by the federal Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act.  LEPC’s create and review emergency response plans based on information from businesses and government facilities that store hazardous chemicals.  The idea is the emergency responders such as fire departments need to be aware of the storage of hazardous chemical when they respond to an emergency.  UFA will provide support staff, meeting rooms and other facility and assistance for the committee. The current committee is not functioning and has an ineffective membership group.  The committee needs to function per the ordinance.  The County should amend the ordinance to create a committee with the proper membership, that will development an emergency response plan and handle requests for information from the public.
