Budget Adjustment: Facilities Requests $35,500 from the Facilities Internal Services Fund Balance to Purchase Snow Removal Equipment So We Can Handle All Snow Removal at the Government Center Ourselves Instead of Having to Use a 3rd Party Contractor

Body

Requested Agenda Item Description: Employee and visitor safety is a top priority for Facilities Management; this includes snow removal at the Government Center. In the past we have used a 3rd party contractor to provide the primary service of snow removal with an average cost of $28k each year. The contractor must balance the needs of all their customers, so we have also had our staff come in early and assist in the snow removal, sometimes completing the work before the contractor even arrives. The contract for snow removal expires this year and this request is to purchase equipment so we can handle all snow removal at the Government Center ourselves. At a cost of $35.5k the payback for this is less than 2 years and includes a plow and salter for an existing truck, to handle the parking lots, as well as a 4-wheeler with plow, to assist with sidewalks, so we are requesting to use some of fund 650 balance to cover these costs.
