Budget Adjustment: Facilities Requests $150,000 from Capital Improvements Contingency Fund to Replace 5 Compressors of the Ellis Shipp’s Chiller for the Health Department.

Requested Agenda Item Description: Ellis Shipp Chiller repair. In May 2022 the chiller which provides cooling for the entire health facility started experiencing mechanical issues. Two of the five compressors in the chiller failed. We were left with 60 percent cooling capacity for the building. We ordered replacements but the parts were delayed and in late June 2022 the remaining 3 compressors were all failed, leaving no ability to cool down the facility.
We have since kept the building up and running by renting two large portable AC units. Chiller needs 5 compressors replaced which we anticipate delivery and installation by mid-October. The initial plan was for Health to cover the full cost of this project, but with the compounding issues and increased cost of equipment we are now seeking to use 450 contingency funds.
