Budget Adjustment: The Sheriff’s Office Requests $1,967,389 to Right-Size the Vehicle Replacement Fund for the Law Enforcement Bureau

Body

Requested Agenda Item Description: The Sheriff's Office (SO) has received 99 cars from Unified Police Department, of which; 3 are 2024's, 15 are 2023's, 14 are 2022's, 10 are 2021's, 4 are 2020's, 13 are 2019's, 17 are 2018's, 10 are 2017's, 5 are 2016's, and the last 7 were from 2005-2015. Following a 5-year replacement plan, the SO would need to replace 53% of these vehicles immediately. In addition to receiving older vehicles, some of these vehicles are in poor mechanical condition. As of now, the SO has received no replacement value for the vehicles that have been transferred. This adjustment will right size the replacement fund for the LEB and bring the fund to the 75% funding level as is consistent within the County. This adjustment will be using one-time underspend from the general fund.
