Budget Adjustment: Health Department's Request to Recognize COVID-NET Grant for Two Time-limited Epidemiologists ($238,298 in Revenue and Expense)

Requested Agenda Item Description: Health has received a new grant (COVID-NET) to assist with surveillance around COVID-19. This request is to add $238K grant funds to fully fund 2 time-limited FTEs. Due to COVID-19 surveillance moving towards monitoring hospitalized cases, these two Epidemiologist positions are needed to investigate hospitalized cases of COVID-19.
The primary job duties for these positions will be case ascertainment and data collection for cases hospitalized with COVID-19. The standardized data collected for each case are demographics, risk factors, underlying health conditions, laboratory results, treatment, severity indicators, vaccination history, radiology results, reason for admission and mortality. They may also be participating in other surveillance activities such as outbreak tracking and collaborating with hospitals to obtain laboratory specimens for sequencing. Special projects may also become available throughout the year where their assistance will be needed, such as death ascertainment and vaccine effectiveness studies.
