Requested Agenda Item Description: The Mayor’s Office for New Americans (ONA) was awarded on February 20th, 2023, the sum of $37,000 by Welcoming America from its Fund to Foster Belonging Grant. They are impressed by Salt Lake County’s commitment to building bridges and belonging in the county. The fund is for the Faces of Salt Lake County project, where ONA will engage with the Salt Lake County Youth Government (primarily non-immigrant/refugee youth) and Salt Lake County 4-H Teen Council (primarily immigrants and refugee youth).
The Faces Partners and participants will work together, collect the stories of 4 nonimmigrants and 4 immigrants/refugees from each continent that are current residents of Salt Lake County, and publish a book of these stories, Faces of Salt Lake County, highlighting their contributions, rich histories, and unique cultures. The grant period is from March 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023. ONA would therefore need a budget adjustment to start the project funded by this grant.
